Villon, pronounced as VEE-YOHN, is a cognac made from an original recipe created by Sovereign Brands' French distillery. Unique paperless packaging with an iconic snake-dagger emblem, VILLON bottle stands out from its competition.
Inspired by medieval French poet and iconoclast François Villon, who penned some of France's most enduring works before disappearing in the late 15th century.
Packaged in a stunning black glass bottle, with an iconic tarnished silver "snake & dagger" medallion and beautiful silver, black and white details on both sides of the bottle.
This was an 18-month-long brand development project that Michelle has worked on alongside with her senior designer, Audrie Kapinus. Responsibilities for this project included inspiration research, logo/label design, bottle stopper design, pitch deck, and web/mobile UI and many more.
Below is an introduction video nicely put together by Michelle's colleague, Vinick Dias. The team creates everything in-house and heavily focuses on cross collaborating with the Graphics Team, Digital Contents Team, and the PR Team.
The primary label for VILLON is an eye-catching serpent-and-dagger motif. The serpent represents mystery, stealth, and cleverness - all qualities of the namesake, François Villon. The dagger represents the Middle Ages, Bravery, Revenge, Sacrifice - and quite literally the dagger François Villon carried beneath his cloak at all times.
Villon's gift tube is designed with unique deep embossing of the snake pattern. It took several trials of sampling to get the right amount of embossing on the gift tube.
Sleek, matte finish with silver foil resembles the bottle and speaks Villon's identity out loud.
Michelle used Adobe XD to create mockups of the website and mobile site for Villon. The main goal was to create something simple with a single scroll page. This mockup was later handed over to our web developer to make it go live. File transfers, specific instructions and feedback communication were all done through email. Visit villon.sovereignbrands.com to see it live!
